The Marais hardly needs an introduction. One of the most ancient
quartiers of Paris, the fine old buildings and squares have been carefully restored
over the years and both Parisians and tourists love to explore the maze of narrow streets,
attractive boutiques, countless cafés and restaurants. We especially enjoy the rue des
Francs Bourgeois. The Place des Vosges (5 mins walk) is one of the purest examples
of 17th century architecture, and there are often open air concerts in the square. Also
within walking distance, the Picasso museum, Pompidou Centre, the banks of the Seine,
the Ile St Louis, Ile de la Cité, flower market, Notre Dame and much more!
Everyone knows the Rue des Rosiers - a narrow bustling street where cafés,
modest and not-so-modest restaurants jostle for space with designer boutiques -
a street of contradictions! A favourite amongst Parisians and tourists alike, the centre
of the old Jewish quarter. Don't miss our favorite tea-room, Le Loir dans la
Théière ("The Dormouse in the Teapot"). A heavy wooden door in a deep
cobbled porch opens onto a characteristic Parisian courtyard where an ancient staircase
winds up to our third floor* apartment. While the apartment is modestly appointed, the
size and especially the location appeals to those on limited budgets wanting nevertheless
to be in the heart of things.
- Good value for up to 4 people holidaying together, this apartment (some 45m2) is a
characterful holiday base for visiting Paris - comfortable but not grand, reasonably
priced! Plain polished wood floors, white painted walls and colourful prints give this
apartment a simple Provençal air - modern furnishings and decoration . Front door opens
directly into cheerful the kitchen/Diner, breakfast bar with stools, good cooking
corner, 2 burners, small electric oven, washing machine. Bedroom with
twin beds overlooks the courtyard... Large sunny sitting room overlooks the
street (double glazed windows) with double sofabed. TV. A large walk-in
closet offers ample storage space. Off the diner/kitchen are a small Shower and
separate WC. Electric heating. Local line telephone. Linen supplied.
* Remember that in
France we count ground floor, first floor, etc.
